How do I setup Outlook to connect to UIndy Gmail?

Step One: Enable settings in Gmail

  1. Open your UIndy Gmail account
  2. Click on Gear icon toward the top right-hand corner
  3. Click Settings
  4. Under Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab, make sure Enable IMAP button is highlighted under IMAP Access Section.
  5. Click Save Changes at bottom of page.

Step Two: Setup your Outlook account

  1. Open Outlook 2013 (please note this must be installed by IT Help Desk)
  2. Click Yes to Add an Email Account box.
  3. For Auto Account Setup, enter your name, UIndy email address and password, and retype password
  4. For Choose Service, click POP or IMAP, and then click Next
  5. Under Add Account, verify your name and email address is listed correctly.
  6. Select IMAP under Account type
  7. Type for Incoming mail server and for Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
  8. Type your entire User Name (be sure to include,
  9. Enter your Password
  10. Next, click More Settings, and select the Outgoing Server tab
  11. Under the Outgoing Server tab make sure to select option Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
  12. Next click on Advanced tab 
  13. Under the Advanced tab please type, 993 for Incoming server (IMAP)
  14. Select SSL for Use the following type of encrypted connection
  15. Under Outgoing Server (SMPT), enter 465 or 587
  16. Select SSL for Use the following type of encrypted connection
  17. Click OK
  18. When back on the POP and IMAP Account Settings screen you can click Next.
  19. If everything has been filled out correctly, it should test the connection and tell you it was successful. From there, your e-mail should start populating.

Step Three: Connect to LDAP (add Campus Directory)

  1. Click on File
  2. Click Account and Social Network Settings
  3. Click on Account and Social Network Setting
  4. Click on last tab Address Books
  5. Click New and make sure Internet Directory Service (LDAP) is highlighted.
  6. Click Next
  7. For Server Name type
  8. Then click More Settings. A new box will appear Microsoft LDAP Directory.
  9. Click on search tab
  10. Keep server settings the same and on Search Base click custom button
  11. Type dc=uindy, dc=edu
  12. Click Apply
  13. Click OK
  14. Click Next
  15. Click Finish
  16. Restart outlook
  17. When you?re back in Outlook, now you can search your Address Book. Click the drop menu under Address Book
  18. Choose the dropdown option under Address Book.
  19. Select Advanced Find on the top right-hand corner and type in the UIndy person?s first and/or last name.
  20. Click OK and you should get results that match that name.
