How to create a .pdf file in Publisher

To create a .pdf file in Microsoft Publisher, you must first convert your publication to a PostScript (.ps) file, and then use Adobe Acrobat Distiller to convert the .ps file to a .pdf file.

Note: Acrobat Distiller is no longer available from Adobe.

 

Step 1: Create a PostScript file

Use one of the following methods to save the publication as a PostScript file, depending upon the options that you need to open and print the final .pdf file.

Method 1: Print to file
  1. In Publisher, open the publication in question.
  2. On the File menu, click Print.
  3. In the Name box, select a PostScript printer under Printer. For example, click Microsoft Publisher Imagesetter.
  4. Select the Print to File check box, and then click OK.
  5. Type a name for the file.

    Note Make sure that you use the .ps extension in the file name. For example, if your publication is named "MyPub.pub," type MyPub.ps.
Method 2: Save as PostScript

ImportantMake sure that a PostScript printer driver is installedbefore you follow these steps.

  1. In Publisher, open the publication in question.
  2. On the File menu, click Save.
  3. In the Save As dialog box, click PostScript (*.ps) in the Save as type list.
  4. Name the file, and then click Save. Note the location of the file.
  5. In the Save As PostScript File dialog box, select a PostScript printer from in the Name list, and then click Save.
  6. In the Publisher dialog box, click OK.

Step 2: Create the .pdf file

To save the publication as a PostScript file, follow these steps:

  1. Start Adobe Acrobat Distiller.
  2. On the File menu, click Open.
  3. Locate the PostScript file that you created in Step 1, and then click Open.
  4. Type a file name, specify the location in which to save the Acrobat Distiller (.pdf) file, and then click Save.
